Matthew D. Altizer is a co-host of Have You Heard and a ‘Jack-Of-All-Trades’ within the professional world.

Matthew’s background includes various leadership roles in the non-profit world and the music industry, including Association Manager at Synergos AMC, Director of Operations for the Indiana Forest Alliance, COO for the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library, marketing and communications for the Percussive Arts Society, and Director of Operations for a national jazz label. During Matthew’s time at the Vonnegut Library, the organization celebrated a successful Year of Vonnegut; brought in over 300 authors, artists, scholars, and musicians for programming; and helped to stabilize the staff and their daily procedures allowing the staff to focus on programs and the museum.

Matthew studied classical saxophone during his collegiate career at Indiana State University, receiving a Bachelor of Music in performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory. During graduate work at The University of Texas at Austin, Matthew spent 3 years studying Javanese Gamelan under the tutelage of Pak Rasito Purwopangrawit. He is trained as a musicologist and ethnomusicologist focusing on 20th Century American experimental music, early African-American music traditions, and the hobo music of Harry Partch. He is a founding member and holds the alto saxophone chair for the Paul Bro Quartet, a saxophone quartet striving the champion all music.

Matthew’s free time is spent with his lovely wife Sara and their son Oliver Henry. Matthew is a cyclist who is trying to find time to get back on the bike, baseball enthusiast, and an avid reader. He and his family live in the lovely north-side Indianapolis neighborhood of Nora.
