Dave Stryker is a player who has been on my radar for quite sometime now. I have heard him on several albums through the years, and since he began teaching at the IU Jacobs School of Music a few years ago, I had every intention to get him on the show to talk about his career and all the music that he creates.
Finally, everything lined up and Dave and I had a nice conversation about his playing career and his new album, “Eight Track III“. This album has a great line-up consisting of:
Stefan Harris – vibraphone, Jared Gold – organ, McClenty Hunter – drums, and Mayra Casales – percussion. They come together re-interpreting some CLASSIC Soul, R&B, Rock, and Funk tunes.
These tunes are so well known I can only imagine how difficult it would be to look at them from a different angle. When you love the music, it comes through on the recording and this album has lots of love!
Pay particular attention to “Too High” by Stevie Wonder and “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone” by the Temptations. These tunes are so well known, I know you’re already hearing them in your inner ear. Dave has taken the essence of these tunes and built upon the existing familiarity to take you on a fun harmonic ride.
I hope you enjoy this album as much as I have!
